Fernhill Dinners are an ongoing experiment in Social Dining.
Each menu is unique and created on the day with fresh ingredients, some favourites will be served again.
About once a month The Dinner Lady hosts and cooks a five course dinner in her own kitchen…
… and serves up to 12 guests at an antique mahogany dining table.
Guests can anticipate an array of experimental dishes, most have never been cooked before.

Expect some treats and few surprises. There may be eggs, or possibly a few buns (hot, cross or otherwise), maybe it’s not too early to start on the chocolate. Beautiful, beautifully presented is guaranteed.

After a scary week of being far to close to the Port Hills fires the rain came, wind dropped and on Saturday 18.2.17 we were able to have pre dinner drinks and nibbles outside and enjoy a mild drizzle before eating.
For those of you who would have liked to come this is the menu:
- Aqua Fizz
- Filo bits filled with brocolli, leek and cream cheese puree
- Llama leg steak bites with mayo, sweet chilli sauce and dry salted capers
- Blackberry jelly with strawberries in raspberry vinegar
- Cool tomato and roast pepper soup with guacamole and seedy rolls
- Ceviche with paw paw salsa or white bean and fennel salad
- Roast duck with rose redcurrant jus or baked spiced eggplant with yogurt miso sauce
- New roast potatoes, green beans, cougette ribbons
- Plum sorbet
- Kumara mousse, loquat puree, chocolate ganache
- Tea, coffee, liqueur chocolates
No one won the prize of a voucher to the next dinner for guessing the ingredients in the desert! Please ask the Dinner Lady if you would like the recipe.

Our lovely friend from Sydney stayed in the Summer House. Waking to sound of birdsong each morning, he recorded this. Such a delight.

A busy few weeks with lots of research in Wellington, so delicious the Dinner Lady forgot to take photographs!
The garden is amazing with spring flowers and a few spring greens, we are planing a succession of garden treats to appeal to all the senses, you can expect beautiful flowers as well as food over the next few months. And, of course, our very special home brewed liqueurs.
November 12th, the Saturday of Show week end will be the last dinner for the year, after that only private events.
